A pest control answering service takes the calls you cannot take from a crawlspace, an attic, or the middle of a treatment. The useful ones capture the job, sort a termite swarm from a routine renewal, and book it. Beside does it on your own line, for $16.67 per user per month.
The calls you cannot physically take
We answer calls all day for small businesses. The ones pest control lines lose are rarely deliberate.
You are flat on your back in a crawlspace, in a 130-degree attic, or in a respirator mid-treatment, where picking up means stripping gear and stepping outside. Then there is the eight o'clock call, when a homeowner watches swarmers come out of a door frame and starts down the list of names she found.
What a missed pest control call actually costs
Easy to price a rung-out call at the job, $223 (Source: Fixr, 2025). Wrong number for this trade.
Pest control is a subscription business in work boots. Across the US, 85.4% of residential pest control service revenue recurs (Source: NPMA, 2025). The call that rang out was an account. A quarterly plan runs $98 to $178 a visit (Source: Fixr, 2025), so $392 to $712 across a year by our math, and it renews. In most trades a missed call is a lost job. Here it is a lost account.
A second bill comes with it. Pest control firms spend an average of 6.6% of revenue on marketing and advertising (Source: NPMA and PCO Bookkeepers, 2025). Spread across a $223 visit, that is $14.72 of advertising behind each one. You paid for the phone to ring, and you were under a house when it did. Voicemail works as a referral service to whoever picks up next.
What Beside does when the phone rings
The first thing owners ask is whether the caller can tell. Beside answers instantly with no hold music, greets callers by name where it can, and can answer in a clone of your voice (Source: Beside). It qualifies the lead, transcribes every call, handles after hours, and hands over the calls you tell it to. Its App Store listing shows 4.8 stars from 8.9K ratings (Source: App Store).
Which calendar does it book into, and what about an emergency?
Booking is where most of these services stop at a message slip. Beside connects to Google Calendar or Outlook, checks availability in real time, and texts a confirmation. One honest limit, because every competing page implies otherwise: a buffer of up to 4 hours before the start (Source: Beside Help Center).
That eight o'clock call does not put a technician on her doorstep at nine. It gets answered, the urgency recorded, the first slot the buffer allows held. The company whose voicemail she reached got none of that.
What a good pest intake actually asks
Answering is the easy half. The job is working out, inside ninety seconds, whether this is same-day or a Thursday appointment:
- Which pest, and is it inside the house right now
- Whether anyone was bitten or stung
- Whether it is a swarm, a sighting, or a scheduled renewal
- Property type and rough square footage
- Whether they are already on a plan
Answers two and three decide your evening. A wasp nest by a back door with a stung child behind it is not a spider in a garage, and a homeowner rarely leads with the part that matters. You define which scenarios transfer straight to you.
You already run FieldRoutes, PestPac or Briostack
Beside's integrations page names 17 tools and none is FieldRoutes, PestPac, Briostack, ServiceTitan, Jobber or Housecall Pro (Source: Beside integrations). It does not do route optimization, log chemical applications, or file compliance reporting. Those are pest control software jobs and Beside does not claim them.
If you came here hoping to replace that software, do this instead
It still fits, and it is worth being exact. Your pest software keeps the routes, the service history and the compliance log. Beside becomes the line that answers, and what crosses over is the call summary: who called, which pest, how urgent, what you promised.
None of the three publishes a Zapier app today, so that handoff is your office keying it in. The difference is what they key in: a full summary, not a half-heard voicemail, and it is there before you get off the ladder.
Bug season, when the phone does not stop
The peak is the problem. The NPMA's Bug Barometer forecast pests emerging earlier and in greater numbers this season, with earlier termite swarms across the Mid-Atlantic, New England, the South Central states and the Southeast (Source: NPMA Bug Barometer, 2026). Volume climbs when you have the least room to answer, and a service billing by the minute charges you most in the month you grow most.
| What it costs when volume triples | What the caller gets | |
|---|---|---|
| Beside, your own line | $16.67 per user, unchanged | Answered, urgency flagged, the slot booked |
| A per-minute or per-call service | Rises with the call count | A message from someone never under a house |
| Voicemail | Free | A beep, and the next number on her list |
Ask whoever is quoting you for their per-minute rate and minimum, multiply by the calls you took last August, and set that next to $199.99.
Hiring your way out is hard. More than a third of pest control companies, 36.8%, told the NPMA a shortage of technicians held their growth back (Source: NPMA, 2025). Every hour on the phone is an hour you are not being the technician you already have.
A plumber's version of the same problem
We have not published a pest control story yet, so here is the closest honest one. Dave Diaz runs DSM Rooter & Plumbing in Los Angeles with three other people, and his phone has the same trigger and economics as yours. Since putting Beside on the line, three to five real prospects a day reach him, not voicemail.

"People tell me, 'You saved the day.' That's the best part. I build relationships. The money comes because plumbing is everywhere in the home." — — Dave Diaz, DSM Rooter & Plumbing, Los Angeles
The emergency call earns the relationship, and that relationship is nearly all the residential money. Same pattern behind what missed calls cost a small business, and in every seasonal trade, including landscapers and HVAC.
How to switch it on this week
- Keep your number. Forward your line, and port it later if you decide to.
- Give it the five things above, and define which scenarios transfer straight to you.
- Connect Google Calendar or Outlook so it books, not just takes messages.
- Read the daily recap for a week and correct what it got wrong.
- A second tech needs his own seat at $16.67. Extra numbers on a seat you already have are $4.99 a month.
By the end of the week that eight o'clock call gets a conversation, not a beep, and you hear about it over dinner.
FAQ
How much does an answering service cost for a pest control company?
$16.67 per user per month, billed $199.99 per user per year, after a 7-day free trial (Source: Beside pricing). Human answering services bill by the minute or the call, so the bill climbs with the season.
Can an AI answering service tell a termite emergency from a routine renewal?
Beside qualifies leads, scores and routes them, and transfers calls on scenarios you define (Source: Beside). A swarm inside the house and a quarterly renewal are not the same call, and the rules are yours.
Will it book the job into my calendar or just take a message?
It books. Beside connects to Google Calendar or Outlook, checks availability in real time, and texts a confirmation. There is a buffer of up to 4 hours before the appointment start (Source: Beside Help Center).
Does it work with FieldRoutes, PestPac or Briostack?
Not directly, and none of the three publishes a Zapier app either (Source: Beside integrations). Beside answers the line and writes the summary; your pest software stays the record and someone keys the job in.
Is an AI receptionist good enough for pest control, or do I need live people?
You keep the controls: you review every summary, approve messages before they send, define which calls transfer, and redirect the line to any number (Source: Beside). It will not answer a pesticide-regulation question or send a tech tonight. It captures the job and flags the urgent one.
PS — we are also building Beside Agentic, an agent that runs more of the business than the phone. Opening soon.
