Most lists for service businesses name eight or nine tools. A one-to-five person shop can run one or two. Buy in the order of what a miss costs you today: intake first (Beside, $29.99/mo), then quotes, scheduling, invoicing, reviews. The rest can wait.

What these lists actually cost if you buy them

The shortlists are mostly accurate. Nobody prints the bill.

One product per surface, billed monthly, for one person: job management at $49 a month on Jobber's entry plan, plus the AI Receptionist add-on Jobber lists at $29, sold on any plan tier (Source: Jobber pricing), plus $29.99 for glue on Zapier's Professional tier (Source: Zapier pricing). That is $107.99 a month by our arithmetic, before anyone has answered a phone.

Treat that as a floor: Housecall Pro names a CSR AI feature and publishes no price for it, and the review tools here publish none either. (Source: Housecall Pro pricing) One of the six surfaces has no published price anywhere, and the AI add-on inside Housecall Pro's plans is not priced either.

They also assume somebody has an afternoon to wire it together, in Zapier, n8n or Make.

Diaz runs a four-person plumbing company. These lists are written about him and sold to somebody with an office.

The order to buy in

One rule turns a nine-tool list into a sequence you can afford: automate the surface where a miss costs you a job today, before the one that costs you an evening. A call nobody answers goes to whoever picked up.

SurfaceWhat a miss costs youWhat it costs to fixBuy it when
Intake (the phone)A booked job, same day$29.99/moNow, if your phone is your main intake

Start with the phone

Of the six, one loses a booked job in real time, and it is the one a small shop is worst equipped for: whoever should answer is under a sink.

Beside is a business phone line with an AI receptionist on it. It answers calls and texts instantly, works out what the caller needs, qualifies the lead, handles after-hours, and summarizes every call into a daily recap. You can port your existing number. (Source: Beside)

It runs $29.99 a month, or $16.67 billed yearly at $199.99 per user per year, with a 7-day free trial and one line per user. (Source: Beside pricing) Every owner asks the same thing first: whether the caller can tell. Beside offers voice cloning and customization, so callers get your greeting rather than a stock voice, and owners rate it 4.8 out of 5 across 8.9K ratings. (Source: App Store)

What it books into, and what it doesn't

Beside books appointments (Source: Beside), and its integrations page names no calendar product today: no Google Calendar, no Calendly, no Acuity. (Source: Beside) Booking happens inside Beside, with no published sync to a calendar you already keep. If your day lives in a shared calendar, ask on the trial.

If you already run Jobber or Housecall Pro

Neither is a Beside integration. Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan and Workiz appear nowhere on beside.com/integrations. (Source: Beside)

What exists is a one-way bridge, and the direction matters more than the fact of it. Beside publishes a Zapier app with six triggers and no listed actions: a finished call with its transcription, a new lead, a voicemail, a message. Jobber's and Housecall Pro's Zapier apps publish write actions, including Create Client, Create Request and Create Customer. (Source: Beside; Jobber; Housecall Pro on Zapier)

So a finished Beside call can create the client or the request on the other side; the reverse does not run. Nobody tells you which way that arrow points, and it decides whether the two work together.

Quotes and follow-up

The second surface is where the money is half won already. A caller who asked for a price on Tuesday and heard nothing by Thursday spent two days collecting other numbers.

Beside sends quotes and invoices, and drafts follow-up messages and emails for you. You approve messages before they send. (Source: Beside) That approval step is the feature: what stops owners automating follow-up is a wrong message going out under their name. More on automating quotes and estimates.

Scheduling and dispatch

This is where the job-management suites earn their money, and their pricing is per seat. Jobber Core is $49 a month for one user plus $29 for each extra; Housecall Pro Basic is $79 a month, or $59 billed yearly, and its Essentials plan includes five users at $189 a month. (Source: Jobber pricing; Housecall Pro pricing) Below three people you are buying dispatch software to schedule yourself.

"I'm slowly graduating to the other side. I have to keep my guys busy and that means scheduling right, doing payroll, and planning routes." — — Dave Diaz, DSM Rooter

That marks the crossing point better than any feature list. Before it, automating appointment scheduling with what you own goes further than expected.

Invoicing, and the automation you already pay for

The cheapest automation you will buy this year is already sitting on your card. Before adding a sixth subscription, open the tools already billing you and see what their AI features do. QuickBooks is a direct Beside integration, under operations, expense and invoicing. (Source: Beside)

A late invoice slows your cash and rarely loses you the money, so the fix is usually a setting you already own. Specifics in invoicing and payment reminders.

Reviews, and the one Beside does not do

In BrightLocal's 2026 survey of 1,002 US consumers, 81% expect a reply to their review within a week. 80% say they are more likely to use a business that responds to all of its reviews, and 42% say they are unlikely to use one that never replies. (Source: BrightLocal, 2026)

The names here are Podium and Birdeye. Neither publishes a self-serve price: Podium's page asks you to talk to sales (Source: Podium pricing), and Birdeye's runs a configurator that wants your phone number first. (Source: Birdeye pricing)

Beside does not do this surface at all. There is no review-management or Google Business Profile integration on its integrations page. (Source: Beside)

If you came here to automate review replies

Do it by hand for now. Replying from your Google Business Profile is free and takes about ten minutes a week: sort by newest, answer everything from the last two weeks, keep each reply to two sentences. The routine is in automating Google review replies.

The glue, and when you actually need it

Glue is the last thing a small shop should buy. It automates the seams between tools you have not bought yet.

Zapier's free tier is real but bounded: 100 tasks a month, two-step Zaps only. Most recipes these lists describe run to three or four steps, which puts you on Professional at $19.99 a month billed annually. (Source: Zapier pricing) It earns its place once you own four tools that need to talk.

A 90-day order for a two-truck shop

Price the busy month. Two people, both on the road, phone going constantly.

Days 1–30. Put the line in first. Two users at $16.67 each billed yearly is $33.34 a month, or $59.98 monthly if you would rather not commit. This is the month you find out how many callers you were losing, because they start showing up in the recap.

Days 31–60. Turn on quote and follow-up drafts, approval step on. You still read every message before it sends, and they go out the same day rather than Thursday.

Days 61–90. Look at what is still manual. If routing two trucks has become the thing eating your evenings, a job-management plan has earned its place: two seats on Jobber Core is $78 a month, $49 plus $29 for the second. If not, you have spent about $33 a month and closed the gap costing you jobs.

Census figures for December 2025 to May 2026 show AI use rising among businesses with 20 or more employees while it stayed flat for firms under 20. (Source: Census Bureau, 2026) The software got built for the other end of the market first, which is why these lists sound like they were written for somebody else.

We are building something for businesses at this end of it, and we will be opening access soon. If you want to hear when, join the Beside Agentic waitlist.
